Join over 3,500 physical therapists from around the world at the 16th International WCPT Congress. 20-23 June 2011, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Last chance for early bird rate

With just over 2 weeks to go until the end of the early bird rate on 2 December, there is no time to waste. Register now.

All registrations must be made online at www.wcpt.org/congress/registration.

Go to the WCPT website for further information on registration, early bird rates and the social programme, as well as the education sessions and clinical visits you can add to your registration. www.wcpt.org/congress

Scientific programme

You can now plan your days at the Congress - the scientific programme is in place with just the outcome of the call for abstracts to be added. An overview for each day is available to view on the Congress website, along with lists of the education sessions taking place in the days pre- and post-congress.

The daily overviews feature all the focused symposium sessions, discussion panels and networking sessions as well as the education sessions and clinical visits taking place within the satellite programme.

Start planning your days at Congress now and go to www.wcpt.org/sites/wcpt.org/files/files/WPT2011-Daily_Overviews_Oct_2010.pdf. A fully searchable on-line itinerary planner will be in place next year once all programming is complete.

Networking sessions

The topics for the networking sessions are based on the profession's current hot topics and requests from physical therapists around the world.

Nearly thirty sessions have been put together covering subjects such as paediatrics, manual therapy, physical therapy management, acupuncture, education and cardiorespiratory physical therapy. They will offer an informal opportunity to meet and talk with colleagues who share a common interest and to make new and renew acquaintances from previous congresses. To see a full list of topics and suggested discussion issues go to www.wcpt.org/congress/nws.

Most networking sessions will be held prior to main sessions or at lunch time and will last 1-1.5 hours.

Discussion panels

This is your opportunity at World Physical Therapy 2011 to engage in debate and discussion with the experts. Explore some of the current issues and hot topics in these 1.5 hour sessions. The audience will have the opportunity to pose questions to stimulate discussion among panel members and with the audience. Constructive controversy and debate will be welcome!

To view a list of discussion topics go to www.wcpt.org/congress/discussion_panels.

Meet the researchers/editors

Meet informally with international researchers and editors to further develop your skills for research and writing for publication, discuss journal development and foster international collaboration.

For further information go to www.wcpt.org/congress/nws#reserchers_editors

Speaker biographies

Speakers from all five of WCPT's regions will pull together international perspectives, as well as the latest research and knowledge from around the world in the focused symposia - the showcase events at Congress. You can read their biographies at http://www.wcpt.org/node/33450.

Hotels during Congress

Don't forget to book your hotel accommodation when you register to attend the Congress. WCPT has teamed up with the RAI Hotel and Travel Service, where discounted rates have been negotiated for Congress delegates.

Follow the links from the Accommodation page on the WCPT Congress website at www.wcpt.org/node/35067. This will take you to their online reservation system allowing you to search for hotels by star rating and area. Additionally you can view a map showing the location of the hotel in relation to the Amsterdam RAI (the Congress centre) and find detailed information about each hotel. www.rai-hotelservice.com/compass/webdirect.cfm?code=WPT11

Art and health competition

If art and photography is your passion then this is for you! WCPT's Art and Health Competition is open to professionals and amateurs alike with selected finalists being shown at World Physical Therapy 2011 in Amsterdam next June.

This exciting new competition will focus on the theme Movement for Health. WCPT is seeking outstanding pieces of artwork relevant to physical therapy including:

  • human movement in health and disease
  • people with functional limitations in action
  • physical therapy practice across the lifespan

All entries must be submitted electronically (as a JPEG photograph) with the original artwork created in one of the following forms:

  • photography
  • painting
  • drawing
  • sculpture

For more information and how to enter go to www.wcpt.org/art_health.

The competition closes on 31 January 2011.

Visas

Do you need a visa? Take a look at our visa information at www.wcpt.org/congress/visas and apply early. Advice from WCPT and the personal experience of delegates is to do you research now. Applying for a visa can be a lengthy process so don't leave it too late and allow longer than you think (at least 3 months).

Delegates can find out whether or not they will require a visa at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or by downloading the Short stay visa for the Netherlands document, which also includes full information on the visa application process. Delegates who require a visa will need to request a letter of invitation.

Congress publishing partners

WCPT is pleased to announce its Congress publishing partners for World Physical Therapy 2011. Elsevier will be publishing all Congress abstracts as an on-line supplement to the Physiotherapy journal. Elsevier also publishes Manual Therapy and Physical Therapy in Sport.

The Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT), Maney Publishing, publishers of Physical Therapy Reviews, the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy and International Musculoskeletal Medicine, and Wiley Blackwell, publisher of Physiotherapy Research International, are the other Congress publishing partners.

They will all be encouraging presenters to submit papers for publication post-congress. Presenters may be approached by any editors/editorial board members and any paper submitted will be subject to the normal editorial and peer review processes of the journals concerned. WCPT welcomes this as a means of facilitating wider dissemination of high quality research and service innovation.
